I would point out that in my own work disambiguating monolithic tech stacks another benefit is the opportunity to better smoke-out underlying issues. “yes, but WHY are the pages loading more slowly? Is it our code? Partner code? Ad code? Tags?…” Getting to the root of the problem is more difficult the bigger the bowl of spaghetti you are diving into. By abstracting functionality into separate layers, tracing a problem to its source becomes much easier. I bet you guys found that to be the case in your own work, as well.
